Netflix Canada Replaces Entire Comedy Section with Just “Corner Gas”
Netflix Canada has removed its entire comedy section and replaced it with only Corner Gas. Officials say it reflects what Canadians were watching anyway.

CANADA – In a move that critics are calling “both profoundly Canadian and wildly predictable,” Netflix Canada has quietly replaced its entire comedy category with nothing but every season of Corner Gas, playing on loop.
Subscribers were confused this week when attempting to browse comedy options and were met with a single recommendation:
“Corner Gas – Because honestly, what more do you want?”
Gone are the American sitcoms, British dry-humour dramas, and quirky indie stand-up specials. In their place? A smug thumbnail of Brent Butt in a Saskatchewan gas station, smiling like he knows exactly what just happened.
“We’ve reviewed the data,” said Netflix Canada spokesperson Lauren Péladeau. “And based on viewership habits, nostalgia metrics, and an uncanny national obsession with small-town awkwardness, we realized this was the only comedy Canadians actually rewatch.”
The Great Purge of 2025: Why It Happened
According to internal documents obtained by someone who forgot to log out of their work email at a Second Cup, the decision was made after analysts discovered that:
📉 92% of Canadians were only watching one show during comedy category browsing: Corner Gas.
📉 8% were just searching for Schitt’s Creek, but settled for Corner Gas anyway.
📈 A surprising number of users had it running in the background while making Kraft Dinner or folding laundry.
“It’s our cultural white noise,” said entertainment critic Paul Tremblay. “Other countries meditate to rainfall. Canadians listen to Wanda complaining about Brent’s work ethic while Davis investigates stolen muffins.”
Public Reactions: Mostly Shrugs and Poutine Crumbs
The public response has been overwhelmingly neutral to mildly satisfied, the most enthusiastic endorsement any Canadian thing has ever received.
🗣️ “I mean, yeah, I was gonna watch Corner Gas anyway.” – Erin, 36, Toronto
🗣️ “I miss Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but this is fine. Brent’s face is comforting.” – Sean, 28, Halifax
🗣️ “They still have Trailer Park Boys right? No? Huh. Well, okay.” – Mike, 41, St. John’s
Some resistance has come from Gen Z viewers who were previously unaware that Corner Gas existed.
“I thought it was like a YouTube series or a Tim Hortons training video,” said one 19-year-old. “Turns out it’s Canada’s Friends. Only… somehow more beige.”
What’s Still Available? (Not Much)
The updated Comedy section now features:
- 📺 Corner Gas – Seasons 1–6
- 🎞️ Corner Gas: The Movie
- 📰 Corner Gas: Behind the Gas (Mockumentary Special)
- 📼 Corner Gas: Animated
- 📣 Corner Gas: Cast Reunion Q&A filmed on a flip phone in Moose Jaw
Other genres remain mostly intact, though there are whispers that the entire Drama section may soon become exclusively Murdoch Mysteries and the Horror section is just climate change documentaries.
Netflix denies this, though their homepage now features a maple leaf icon and the tagline:
“It’s not a glitch. It’s a lifestyle.”
What Comes Next?
Netflix says this is just the beginning of their “Hyperlocal Canadian Content Strategy,” which may soon include:
🍁 A French-dubbed Trailer Park Boys reboot titled Les Garçons de la Roulotte
🍁 A gritty Heritage Minutes mini-series where historical figures say “Sorry” before every battle
🍁 Great Canadian Baking Show: Uncensored, where judges are allowed to swear about soggy bottoms
🍁 A Just for Laughs compilation titled Laugh, You Coward
At press time, Netflix was reportedly in talks with Brent Butt for a new spin-off called “Corner Gas: The Empty Tank,” in which all the characters have moved away but still call each other once a week to complain about snow tires
